we have been wanting to go on a weekend hike with the kids for a while now, but the weather has been too wet and the to do's too many. anyhow, this weekend, even if the weather forecast said it might rain friday, we finally packed our backpacks, filled a rental car with blankets and canned beans and set off for adventures in the nature. Evald isn't really a fan of longer drives (his patience usually is gone after ten minutes), so we had decided that even if we only were to drive for about an hour, we would make a stop after 30 minutes to have a fast food dinner. it's not often we eat this kind of food, which made it feel special and somehow marked the start of our little journey.
we were very excited when it was time to get out of the car. as predicted it was raining and the two neon parasols we got from Ikea to keep our equipment dry IF it the hike would be under crying skies came in handy. we walked and walked. Evalds backback wasn't really that heavy, but all of us was concentrating on carrying, walking and not getting completely soaked. when we lost the path we were on, our compass app got us on track again after a while, but the result was that what was supposed to take about an hour took around three. when we finally found the hut we actually screamed hallelujah! and felt happier than ever. the kids hadn't been complaining at all. but now they finally got to tell us how wet, cold and hungry they were. inside Mikkel lit up the oven and one cup of hot cocoa later we were all asleep in our sleeping bags. what an amazing feeling of achievement.
the next day we woke up to sunshine and birds singing. we carried water from a stream. fell in love with cute frogs. chopped wood. made campfire meals. collected plants. found an old map which led us to a hidden treasure (candy and chocolate bars). played a lot of card games. took short walks around the area. it was great!
sunday we returned dirty and tired to the city, singing and laughing all the way home. the value of trips like this one makes them so worth the effort. but now we're in need of some cartoons and modern comfort. the kids and me will spend a couple of days on the country side while Knut has his last days at work. it has been a while since we made a vinyl and flea sunday post. but next sunday we'll make one, from copenhagen.
third pic: the only entertainment we brought for the kids was paper and crayons. (Mikkel's friend Frode is visiting us from denmark these days).
fifth pic: this one knows how to start a camp fire and does it way better than us grown ups. (the tripod was a great investment. we love it!)
bottom pic: this one impressed us with his endurance and his eye for the beauty of nature.
