Mikkel and Evald go to a Waldorf school, or as we would say in norwegian, they are Steiner kids. since a few of you have asked about our experiences on this matter, i've wanted to make a post about it for a while. Mikkel didn't go to Steiner daycare and was six when he started out as a first grader in a Rudolf Steiner elementary school. Evald hasn't tried anything else. to be honest i didn't know too much about anthroposophy when Mikkel was about to be signed up, and i can still learn more, thats for sure. but i can tell you the main reasons why we have chosen this path for the boys. aesthetics is an important part of our life. i love how this aspect is appreciated in the environment where the kids spend many hours every day. the colors and the materials used in the teaching are all natural. every Steiner school is different, but in our school vegetables are grown and animals are taken care of. some have questioned if Mikkel and Evald are missing out on the digital world because of the quite small amount of lessons in computer related subjects. well, that's not really a concern as both the kids are navigating more easily on iPads and such, than i ever will. the only downside i can think of is that most of the other school kids in our street go to public school. and also the bus ride every morning, which can be quite hard in those dark and cold winter months. if i would recommend it? most definitely. but be prepared to get engaged.
